Several east coast mid-Atlantic states reported cases of dust-like dust falling from the sky.
Concerns arose Thursday when residents of Maryland, Northern Virginia and Western Virginia began reporting that a strange dust had settled on the roofs of their vehicles.
There have been so many reports that the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has decided to launch its own investigation into the phenomenon.
A primary goal was to determine if the dust could be dust from storms in Texas and New Mexico, which then moved east toward Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky. However, not everyone is convinced that this explanation is true, with some blaming the release of toxic chemicals during a train derailment in eastern Ohio and others claiming the gunpowder was dropped from a passing airplane.
The authorities decided to dismiss these allegations, leading to many conspiracy theories on social media and a general need for a more definitive and concrete explanation.
From the looks of it, officials are downplaying any cause for concern, and so far there's no evidence the dust is toxic or dangerous in any way. However, this is one of the mysteries that the authorities want to solve as soon as possible.
